Senator Jerry Stevenson (Republican -Fruit Heights) presented the bill authorizing the creation of an “Inland Port Authority” today in the Senate Economic Development Committee. Four hands were raised to testify in favor of the bill and seven were raised in opposition. Chairman Jacob Anderegg (Republican – Lehi) allowed testimony from four each. Salt Lake City Mayor Jackie Biskupski, along with her planning and legal counsel expressed their concern that the bill created an Authority that did not represent the City’s interests sufficiently. Afterall, the creation of an Inland Port would happen on Salt Lake City property.
