March Job Numbers Show Smaller Gains Than Expected, But Unemployment Rate Still Drops

Analysts were hoping for more, but the economy still added 88,000 jobs in March, bringing the unemployment rate down slightly from 7.7% to 7.6%. The new numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statistics show that the private sector added 95,000 jobs, while government jobs in the public sector (which has seen severe cuts due to the “fiscal fliff” and sequester), lost 7,000 jobs.
